Bailiffs Used to Recover Business Rates

The burden of business rates on many businesses is reaching a record high, this was revealed recently after some councils revealed figures on the amount of money recovered through bailiffs. More than £30 million has been recovered by bailiffs for councils in the form of unpaid council tax and business rates.

Bailiffs have been used more than 110,000 times in order to recover money.

Walsall council revealed that they have obtained £1.5 million of unpaid business rates through the use of bailiffs.

Numerous other councils have stated that they have used bailiffs in order to recover funds that have not been paid in the form of business rates.

Calls are being made by businesses in order to consider why these businesses can not afford to pay the business rates. In an environment where costs are increasing many businesses are finding it incredibly difficult to keep upto date with business rates payments.
